Zechyr Othmar
Linz *1938 - †1996 Linz
Othmar Zechyr is one of the most important draughtsmen of the second half of the 20th century in Austria.
The painter and draughtsman Othmar Zechyr was born in 1938. He spent his youth in educational institutions. There he learned the professions of gardener, bookbinder and farmer. Zechyr worked in a nursery and a goldsmith’s workshop.
In 1952 he attended the art school in Linz and in 1959 the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.
In 1961 and 1963 he took part in Oskar Kokoschka’s School of Vision at the Salzburg Summer Academy for Fine Arts.
His artistic view of the world defines reality and vision as unity, his style is characterized by the timelessness of an energetic line that combines classic and modern. Characteristic of Zechyr’s overall work are his monumental machinic paintings, but also those clearly organically layered mountains and dynamic formations.
